Bathroom – Deep Cleaning

Bathroom – Deep Cleaning

Deep cleaning the bathroom is one of my least favourite things! However, it does feel sooo good once it’s done and I can see my reflection sparking all around me. 🙂

In case anyone is curious as to how to do a deep clean on their bathroom then here is my method:

Step 1: Declutter

Remove everything from your bathroom! Shampoos, toys, floor matt, toiletries… etc. The only thing you want in there are your cleaning products.

Step 2: Windows and frames

Mould spray the window frames if needed and leave the product to work before wiping down.

I’d recommend using a different cloth for this job, one that you can throw away. Depending on how much black mould you have hidden in your window crevasses.

Give the windows a good clean whilst you’re there. Hot water and washing up liquid works fine or you can use a bottled window/glass cleaner.

Step 3: Tiles

Use a mould remover spray if needed and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping down (or use according to bottle instructions).

Spray down the tiles (I use and absolutely love Flash Bathroom and my Minky cleaning pad) and scrub from top to bottom. Then rinse and wipe down. Tip: If you have a microfiber cleaning mop then you can buy a separate pad and use it exclusively for moping your tiles down!

Step 4: Clean bath, shower and shower screen

(You should leave your sink until last as you’ll be using it to rinse your cloths so don’t want to recontaminate it).

Give the bath and taps a spray with your chosen limescale remover and leave the product to work. I use the Astonish Mould & Mildew Remover for around my tap area and then Flash bathroom spray for my bath and shower area.

Remove the rubber seal from your shower door (if you have one) then give it a good clean. I soak mine in bleach and then use a thin toothbrush to scrub the plastic chamber. This gets pretty manky so it’s good to clean as often as you can. Scrub the shower door (with Flash, or a window/glass cleaner) and rinse down. You can use a squeegee to wipe down the water or a Karcher window vac if you’re lucky enough to have one. Then buff dry using your glass ecloth (or any microfiber cloth).

Step 5: Toilet

Spray and scrub – please use rubber gloves for this job (if you haven’t been using them up to now). Remember to clean down the outside of the toilet and round the back.

I love using the Tesco bleaching tablets for any soaks I do but any household bleach works just fine. Also, at this point you might want to add in a toilet rim block, or put some domestos under the rim to soak. For limescale I would recommend using the Bloo Foamaroma from Tesco, you just pop a cap of power down the toilet and it will fizz away and remove all the limescale. You’ll notice a difference within days! Please ensure this does not come into contact with bleach as these two chemical products must not be mixed. I also occasionally throw down some toilet descaler and leave it overnight to soak. It works wonders:

Step 6: All the extras

  • Give the toilet brush a soak in bleach then once it’s cleaned pour in some diluted Zoflora disinfectant to keep it smelling fresh and clean!
  • Clean down the toilet roll holder(s)
  • Change and wash the bin then dry
  • Don’t forget to clean door handles and light switch as they can hold some nasty germs. You can use Dettol spray or anti-bac wipes which work just as well
  • Wash skirting (if you bathroom has any)
  • Dust away any cobwebs
  • If you have an extractor fan give it a good wipe down

Step 7: Sink

Now that everywhere else is clean you can finally do your sink. Get rid of any limescale around the taps and then give the sink a good scrub. Again, remember to wipe down the outside of the sink and all the way down to the floor.

Step 8: Floor

Your absolute last step (haha) should be the floors. I use Cif or Wilko floor wipes but most floor wipes work. Or give it a good mop if preferred.

Now step back and admire your work. 🙂

At this point you can begin adding your toiletries back into the bathroom. This is always annoying for me because we have a daughter and all her toys and toilet training bits get put back in to throw off the neat and tidy look. Haha.

You might as well wash the hand towel and floor matt(s) too whilst you’re at it. Just to make everything completely spotless. White is such a good colour for hand towels as it’s neat and very versatile.

I hope this has given you an idea of some of the things you can do to clean your bathroom. It may seem daunting but you only really need to do it every now and then so it can’t hurt to save an hour of your weekend to get it done! 🙂
