How to clean your dishwasher

Cleaning your dishwasher does not need to be complicated or expensive. But it does need to be done! As with our washing machines it is so important to clean what cleans, especially anything which can harbour mould. You might notice your plates and glasses start coming out of the dishwasher feeling or looking less than shiny. If this does start to happen then there are four very simple steps to have it looking as good as new.

  1. Make sure the dishwasher is empty. Twist the filter cap and remove it completely. Soak both parts in a cocktail of white vinegar and water then scrub them clean. You can use most cleaning products for this step.
  2. Pop the filter back in and then place a cup of distilled vinegar on the top rack (I buy a bottle from Tesco for about 50p). You can also add some lemon juice in (55p for a bottle from Aldi) if you would like that extra fresh scent. Run a hot wash.
  3. Sprinkle baking soda or bicarb of soda on the bottom of the machine. Run a quick wash.
  4. Clean the fascia and all down the sides (including any rubber seals) of the machine. Again, you can use some vinegar and water or go with a disinfectant such as diluted Zoflora, etc.

And you’re done!

Your dishwasher should be gleaming with very little effort. Zero scrubbing required and as I always say, clean smart not hard!
